Clinical Analysis of Hemangioma

Abstract
Hemangiomas represent growths of blood vessels and are independent of the adjacent normal circulatory channels. Hemangioma are the most prevalent benign tumors of infancy and early childhood. Most are of the capillary type which are commonly called strawberry hemangioma because of their appearance. Their natural tendency for spontaneous involution is well known. But most of the patients pairent anxious for the lesions because of their rapid growing during early infancy and they usually continue to so for 4 to 6 months. When involution occurs, the process is usually completed by the child¡¯s seventh year. Author analysis 58 cases of hemangioma, admitted to National Medical Center during last 10 years (1968¡­1977) and obtained following results.

1. 36 patients were within age of 5 (62%).

2. Female were 39 cases (67%) and male were 19 cases (33%), sex distribution was about 2 : 1 (F:M).

3. Cavrnous types were 20 cases (34.5%), Strawberry hemangiomas were 20 cases(34.5%), Porwine hemangiomas were 6 cases (10.3%) and others were 8 cases.

4. Most of hemangimas located on face (48.3%), trunk (10.3%) neck (10.3%), upper extremities (10.3%), scalp(3.5%) and lower extremities(3.5%) in order of frequency.

5. Treatment include excision and direct closure (34 cases), excision with local flap rotation (6cases), excision with S.T.S.G. (4 cases), excision with F.T.S.G. (2 cases), Partial excision with multiple ligation(4 cases) and systemic steroid the rapy (8 cases).
